In late fall when leaves are dead, but before ground freezes I remove all the leaves and then apply about a half cup of Ortho Bug-Getta snail and slug killer. In the spring when the shoots are up about an inch or two I again apply another half cup of bug-getta around about a 10 inch area.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9182089312917589572.post-9611054897368251782014-06-12T19:49:53.524-07:002014-06-12T19:49:53.524-07:00Nice flowersNice flowersAnonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15287658105019735563noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9182089312917589572.post-90860681124721042222014-05-31T21:10:37.576-07:002014-05-31T21:10:37.576-07:00I enjoyed this entry about Geranium and am glad to...I enjoyed this entry about Geranium and am glad to discover your blog. They did best on the north and east sides of our home in Rockville, MD., where we had moved them in the 1980's. Not realizing that they do not grow from the root, but rather from the seeds in the seed pods, I harvested every last seed pod and mailed them to family who wanted some of "grandmother's pink lacey begonias" in their gardens too. Needless to say I am very distraught as this year instead of 20 feet of begonias growing along the edge of the lawn, under the azelias, we have - plain mulch and not much else. Our leaves were big as tea saucers, - about six inches across, and dark green. The flowers would grow. branching out until they were nearly a foot of pink blossoms. They would die on the first frost, but as we let the seed pods lie where they fell, they would return each spring. The black seeds in the pods, were black, much in appearance like chia seeds, like a pencil point. Some grew in Michigan, the middle of the Lower Peninsula, from plants we moved ourselves. I consulted some fact sheets.<br />The University of Wisconsin (http://www.entomology.wisc.edu/mbcn/fea204.html) gives this advice: "Purchasing lady beetles and praying mantids for release in the home garden is not recommended." North Carolina State University (http://www4.ncsu.edu/~dorr/Insects/Harmful_Predators/Chinese_Mantid/chinese_mantid.html#) states: "Chinese mantids have no demonstrated value in pest management." They give the following reasons: The insects present in most gardens are not abundant enough to satisfy their needs, so they may eat each other or leave the area. They are indiscriminate in their choices and eat a number of beneficial species, as well as pests.Beatriz Moissethttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05745938472052790104noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9182089312917589572.post-22685584198619392992013-06-26T07:36:51.943-07:002013-06-26T07:36:51.943-07:00Nice post thanks for sharing.Nice post thanks for sharing.Joybauer couponhttp://www.shoocare.us/joybauer-discount-2262.htmlnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9182089312917589572.post-17802655585272639232013-05-30T06:00:43.969-07:002013-05-30T06:00:43.969-07:00Melanie,

I have it and although it can tolerate sun it looks better, I think if it is in shade.
